伸びたコイルのように丸まった細長い紙、和紙の切れ端、表紙を包むときに切り落とした角の三角、糸で綴じるために折丁にポンチで抜いた丸い穴や半月の紙の重なり。これはと思う欠片は避けておいて、作業が終わったらガラス瓶や小さな箱に入れて、そっと引き出しにしまい込んできました。2021年に大阪のippo plusで個展「by paper」をさせていただくことになり、ギャラリーで展示する「作品」も新しく作ることになりました。何をつくればよいのか分からず頭を抱えていたら、それを見かねて、オーナーの守屋さんが何度もわたしのアトリエを訪ねてくれました。来るたびに壁にかかっているものを手にしたり、引き出しを開けたり、欠片をじっくり見ながら、「これ、もう作品やねんな」と愛おしそうに手にしていたのです。それを見て、なんとか応えたいと思って生まれたのが、この小さな本です。
