The stone, a bright old mine cut with a square cushion profile, rests flush with the band in an engraved eight pointed star setting, and a cute inscription inside the band reads Alice to Fred July 1895. English hallmarks from the Birmingham assay office warrant the gold at 18 carat, and confirm it was made in the year 1890. A nice example of the lesser seen Victorian minimalism. Era:
