The item has a scroll handle with wrapped wicker and has been designed with the base tapering towards the rim

Although some light surface scratches exist within

The pestle appears to have been broken at some point but rather than just a glue, the item has been repaired in tested and solid manner. The pestle is not marked or stamped. The mortar appears to have 4 letters impressed on the base but they are illegible. The
