These were not used for phone wire but rather for detonation wire or for cables used to support things like antenna masts etc

the worst is along the shoulders

It looks as though the lettering and maker marks were intentionally dented to sort of erase them. Over all this is a good, solid, usable can. It needs a little cleaning, but its starting off quite clean inside compared to most.
